It’s a wrap
On the same day Brazil went out of the tournament, Argentina advanced to the semifinals.
La Albiceleste will be elated not to have to face their South American rivals after they were beaten on penalties earlier today.
However, the team who took them out is not one to be trifled with, as Croatia reached the World Cup final in Russia four years ago.
The European side are well-organised, with a healthy dose of experience on top, so Argentina will tread carefully.
It has been a fabulous Friday of World Cup football. Before you head off, do make sure to check out our detailed match report.
We hope you will join us again tomorrow as we build up to the Portugal-Morocco and France-England games.
Battle of Lusail?
I’m pretty sure those two yellow cards after the shootout mean that this game has just overtaken the Battle of Nuremberg for most bookings in a single World Cup match.

Netherlands will shoot first
And so it begins…
It will be van Dijk who will lead things off for the Dutch.
View from the stands
The Albicelestes fans wanted to avoid penalties. They have been up on their feet cheering on their team throughout added time.
The Dutch have been sitting back, happy for the South Americans to have possession.
Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz, the Spanish referee, is possibly the most unpopular person in this stadium. Since that last-gasp equaliser from the Netherlands, the Argentina fans have been jeering his every decision.
To say they are unhappy with him is an understatement.
Look, if you view the referee as the arbiter of truth and keeper of law in the match, sure, Lahoz is a disaster. But if the referee is really the arbiter of the spectacle, Lahoz is Picasso or Rembrandt.

Time for penalties
After 120 minutes, it is time for penalties to decide who will go into the World Cup semi-finals.
ET FT: Netherlands 2-2 Argentina
Di Maria with a cheeky effort from the right corner
The winger tries to catch Noppert off guard as he aims to curl the ball into the near post, but the keeper is able to block it out.
The ball is sent towards Fernandez, who picks it up and has a go from a distance, with the resulting shot striking the left upright on the bounce.
120 mins ET: Netherlands 2-2 Argentina
Lautaro shot blocked
Lautaro has another golden opportunity just inside of the box to put Argentina ahead, but his shot is well stopped by the Dutch keeper as he goes to his right.
120 mins ET: Netherlands 2-2 Argentina
Lang cross intercepted by Martinez
Lang sends in a searching ball outside the box towards the right side.
Martinez spots the intended target to the left of him and rushes out to meet the ball.
118 mins ET: Netherlands 2-2 Argentina
Fernandez gets another crack
It is Fernandez again inside the box as he shoots along the ground.
Noppert sticks out his left leg to stop the ball but the danger isn’t averted quite yet as the ball loops dangerously upwards – but only just over the cross bar.
The left side corner is quickly taken and finds Pezzella, who tries to head in a chance goal, but sends it over.
117 mins ET: Netherlands 2-2 Argentina
Here’s a neat bit of trivia
No player has ever won the World Cup, Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup.
If Netherlands win Van Dijk would become the first.
If Brazil win Alisson and Fabinho would become the first.
If England win Trent and Henderson would become the first. pic.twitter.com/mSo1CS6p8u

Fernandez with best chance of extra time
Van Dijk comes to the rescue for the Dutch as Fernandez receives the ball inside the box and has a go at the net.
The ball goes straight into the Liverpool centre-back’s chest and continues out of play.
The resulting corner is taken on the right by Di Maria but the threat is soon stamped out by the Dutch defence.
115 mins ET: Netherlands 2-2 Argentina
