It’s a wrap
As the dust settles, South Korea are into the final 16 courtesy of Heechan’s stoppage time winner over Portugal.
It really was the quintessential “end-to-end” match, and that is demonstrated with the 12 shots on target the teams accumulated.
Although Portugal dominated large parts of the game, keeping possession overall at 62 percent, the South Koreans were never too far from springing the odd counter or two when conditions were favourable.
The Navigators will not be too affected by the result though, as they had already sealed pole position in the group after putting away Ghana and Uruguay.
With Uruguay failing to get enough goals in their 2-0 victory over Ghana, the South Americans and Africans exit the tournament as a consequence of the South Korean result.

Full time: Portugal 1-2 South Korea
The referee blows the final whistle and is received with a rising crescendo of noise from the South Korean fans.
Hwang Heechan announces himself as a new sporting hero as his stoppage time goal has put South Korea through to the round of 16.
Spare a thought for the Portuguese, though, as they dominated the match throughout, but the Taegeuk Warriors were always ready to counter when the conditions were right.
The Uruguay-Ghana nail-biter is still playing out, but as it stands, it should be South Korea through to the next round.
GOAL!
South Korea have done it in added time! Is this the goal that takes them to the round of 16?
The World Cup dream is still burning brightly as a failed corner on the left side from Portugal creates a long-ball opportunity for Son Heungmin, who rushes to the Portuguese box.
He is able to time a perfect through ball to Heechan, who finishes with aplomb.
The South Korean fans are in ecstasy as Portugal look on rather forlornly.
And through all of that, we will be having six minutes of added time.
90+1 mins: Portugal 1-2 South Korea
South Korea continue search for winning goal
It is clear with all the tactical changes made by Portugal manager Fernando Santos that he is content with a draw.
South Korea, however, are continuing their all-out attack on the Portuguese end, but have so far failed to make any inroads in this half.

More changes at Education City Stadium
South Korea’s Lee Kangin is brought off in favour of Son Junho.
Meanwhile, Portugal has also made some substitutions as Bernardo Silva and William Carvalho are on in place of Vitinha and Mario.

There’s only one place Ronaldo wants to be
And that’s on the pitch, scoring goals.

80 minutes on the clock
South Korea’s Cho in a spot of bother
After being taken down in a rough challenge, Cho looks to be in some trouble here.
Bento, who is sitting in the stands after a red card he sustained in the previous match, is firing orders at his assistant in the South Korea dugout.
Looks like both sides are ready to make some additional changes here as well.
80 mins: Portugal 1-1 South Korea
Portugal continue to work the flanks
Dalot and Cancelo have been hugely influential for Portugal.
Dalot tries to fire in a cross into the box along the ground as he approaches the near post on the right side, but the effort is stymied by South Korea’s Kim Seunggyu.
78 mins: Portugal 1-1 South Korea
South Korea win threatening free kick
A rough challenge on Lee Kangin by Palhinha gives South Korea a free kick about 25 metres (27 yards) out, just right of centre.
Lee takes the attempt and looks to curl a left-footed strike into the top right corner, but he gets too much on it, and the ball sails wide.
74 mins: Portugal 1-1 South Korea
South Korea claim handball
After receiving a cross inside the box on the far right, South Korea’s Son aims a one-touch effort at the near post, but Portugal’s Cancelo is able to get his body behind it admirably.
He is in some pain though, as he looks winded from the effort considering the ferocity of the attempt.
Son immediately motions for handball to the referee, but he is pointed to the right corner instead. Looks like the correct call on second viewing.
70 mins: Portugal 1-1 South Korea
South Korea makes a change
Hwang Heechan is brought on for Lee Jaesung.

The old and the new
Portugal's starting centre-back pairing:
◉ António Silva: The youngest defender at the 2022 World Cup (19 years & 39 days old)
◉ Pepe: The oldest defender at the 2022 World Cup (39 years & 279 days old)
Pepe made his professional debut before Silva was born. 🤪

Triple substitution for Portugal
It is the end of the night for Portugal’s talisman Ronaldo. He was taken off along with Neves and Nunes.
In their place, Andre Silva, Rafael Leao and Joao Palhinha are brought on.
64 mins: Portugal 1-1 South Korea
Both teams fighting for the lead
Portugal continue to control this second half.
South Korea have had precious few chances to attack the Portuguese end, and the attempts have ultimately fizzled out.
It is clear, though, that both managers want the lead as the substitutes get warmed up in the dugouts.
63 mins: Portugal 1-1 South Korea
A reminder …
As it stands at the moment, Uruguay will be going through to the round of 16 alongside Portugal.
But if South Korea can find a way to beat Portugal, they will go through instead of the Montevideo maestros.
Much better from Korea now
As predicted, the Koreans are holding back for the counter.
This time it is Cho who sends in a delightful ball to Son who tries his luck from just inside of the box on the right side, but the attempt is deflected away for a right-side corner by Silva.
The resulting corner is taken but nothing comes off it.

Portugal controlling tempo
Portugal continues to dominate the majority of possession in the opening exchanges of the second half.
South Korea haven’t sunk too deep into their half though, which suggests they are persisting with their plan to wait for opportunities and launch a counter when appropriate.
